I find each New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, I like reflect and reminisce about the events of the year gone past, take a look at old photos and remember the best. Sometimes it's a hard year, but hopefully for most those tough memories are outweighed by some pretty good ones. Here are some of our best or most memorable moments from 2013 with links to some of our favorite adventures, (if you care to browse).
1. Being in Washington, DC as a family, our first time living altogether for such a stretch of time. It made me realize that while working was pretty important, giving up my career for a little bit is not the end of the world. Having my husband around and being together vastly outweighs everything else.
2. Celebrating Gabriel's first birthday and being with some fantastic friends we made in Washington, DC. (And still have!) It was fun hosting friends in our little home there. Birthdays are so much more exciting now then they have been in years! Well, every holiday is now more exciting with children, don't you think?
3. Losing our grandparents. This was a really tough year in some ways for us, losing three grandparents. And being so far away from all of them. We miss them and often think of picking up the phone or sending a card or a letter, only to have a tearful moment it hits us again that they are gone.
4. Anna Maria Getaway! We took a holiday in Anna Maria, Florida this year with friends from our childhood. It's not something we've ever done before, but definitely pretty fantastic! Nothing beats old friends who know you best.
5. Witnessing the majestic Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC. I will never get those stunning images and the scent of cherry blossoms out of my head. It's just one of those wonders you must experience.
6. Saying goodbye to our wonderful friends in DC. We miss you!
7. Coming home to Canada and our beautiful home in the mountains.
8. Reuniting with friends that we missed so dearly while we were gone.
9. Finding out that we have a little baby girl on the way!!
10. Going on a wild adventure into the Great White North--not so "white" in June--for a friend's wedding. Thanks for providing the excuse to get up there!
11. Our sweet and sorrowful parting with friends in Squamish, BC, our home for eight years. We definitely left some beautiful souls behind. But don't worry! You host the best ski hills around, so we'll be back for a visit and we are bringing the kids!
12. A week of rejuvenation at the family compound of cottages in Ontario. Sigh. Throwing rocks in the lake a zillion hours a day, sunshine and swimming and more pies than I've ever had in my life.
13. Exploring our new city, Toronto, reconnecting with our family here and making new friends
14. Hosting Christmas and New Year's with family in our home.
So long 2013 and welcome 2014. We embrace you and all of your adventures in the year ahead!
