Winnipeg Wedding: Rachael & Derek

A couple of weeks ago, Rachael, the sister of the Davey clan tied the knot with love of her life, Derek.  It was a gorgeous wedding.  It had a perfect combination of elegance and playfulness.  The venue for the reception was in a permanent tent set up on a large grassy property outside of Winnipeg.  The grounds were so pretty with fountains, a grassy area for lawn games and little picturesque nooks for pictures--fields, nests of trees, old cars and gardens.

Rachael was radiant and simply looked stunning, tall and elegant and poised, a true picture of grace and sweetness.  And Derek, so handsome.  My cousin, Rebecca remarked on how life and relationships can sometimes make these affairs so complicated.  And yet that this wedding was not like that at all.  It was so sweet and innocent and pure.

The ceremony was simple and short and the reception venue was perfect.  There were chandeliers and baby's breath, lemonade, tea and cupcakes, wine and great food including a sweet treat for the kids at heart, ice-cream sundaes!  It was clear how much Rachael and Derek love their nieces and nephews and obviously made this wedding work for them too--an early reception, green space for them to play on, bubbles, glowsticks, sparklers and coloring books.  It was fantastic!  Because the kids where all geared up and ready to party!  They coloured furiously during dinner, then stole cupcakes from the cupcake table and Gabriel grabbed hands with the littlest flowergirl and took her for an impromptu spin around the dance floor.  They ran around outside playing crochet during speeches, then got into the bubbles.  Finally, when the dancing actually started, they ripped around on the dance floor for awhile before playing with sparklers and glowsticks outside.

Magdalene got passed around and met family and friends and all sorts of new faces before she finally crashed and went to sleep in her stroller.  While Gabriel kept rolling with the party until nearly 10:30 before he fell asleep within seconds in the car on our way back to our rooms.  It's one wedding that I hope he remembers, because it sure was great!  And if he doesn't, well, there are pictures to remind him.

Rachael and Derek, your wedding weekend was so beautiful.  And we are so delighted we could be a part of your day--to witness your love for each other, the strength of your friendships and to meet your family.  Not only did you throw an amazing celebration to start off your lives together, full of bonding opportunities and time together with family.  You created some wonderful memories for all of your guests through the speeches, the opportunities to wander the property and chat and those playful touches that really made the day so unique.  May your love for each other grow and grow.
