Hello Canada! We love you! You sure are a pretty great country, and beautiful too I might add. We are so blessed and proud to be living here and raising our children in Canada.
When we were in the US for a few months last year, we had a really wonderful time being altogether as a family, being in a new place and making new friends. But there was just something so comfortable and homey about coming back to Canada, our home where everything is familiar, where we really do have so many privileges--year long maternity leaves, free healthcare, good people. While many of these things come at a great cost and are less than perfect systems, we sure are grateful to be in Canada. I think it sometimes takes being away from home to really, truly appreciate it.
We celebrated the day with our friends, Victoria and Jason, in the afternoon--splashing around in their pool, stretching out on the patio chatting while the littles ran around shrieking and waving their Canadian flags and pinwheels before eating a delicious supper and having a "Happy" cake for Canada's birthday, complete with sparklers and 1/2 a song.
I've always remembered Toronto for being a hot place to live in the summer. We are thankful for good friends who live so close who are willing to share their pool with us!
So, Happy Birthday Canada and thank you for giving us yet another reason to celebrate!
