Picnic with the President?

Since the first time we've drove past the White House in October and got a glimpse of people lunching in Lafayette Square, I've been itching to take a little picnic and park ourselves on the front lawn.  So, with only two weeks until we leave Washington, DC and with beautiful weather leading the way, that's exactly what we did.  Ok, so it's not actually THE front lawn, but pretty darn close. And technically, we didn't actually picnic with the President. But we like to think that maybe somewhere in that big house he was having lunch at the exact same time we were.  Although with a schedule like his, he was likely somewhere very important.

And for being right in front of the White House, it was actually pretty quiet, even with a few protestors and some people in orange jumpsuits.  We were able to easily find our own tree to roll out a picnic blanket, put out a spread and Jordan joined us for lunch--a special thing, especially given that we won't have that opportunity again for quite awhile.  We were able to have a quick bite and let Gabriel run around in the park, leaving a trail of Cheerios and get himself covered in dirt without having to worry too much.  As I look back on these photographs from today, I am struck by the fact that I feel like I am no longer looking at a baby, but rather a little boy--all covered in dirt and blackberry juice.  Did I mention lately that summertime means that every night is a bath night?

Gabriel came here a baby and is leaving a little boy.  Sigh.  Only two weeks left, really?  Oh, DC, we are going to miss you!
