Girls' Night Out

In celebration of our upcoming move (and a certain someone who recently turned 30), the girls used the excuse to hit the town and show me more about what DC is all about.  So Friday night, we hung up our mama hats for the evening, leaving our husbands on daddy-duty and hit the town--all gussied up in our heels, dresses and lipstick, and ready to party!  Well, mama-style.

We all took off into DC to a humming restaurant on 7th in Penn Quarter, called La Tasca, a terrific Spanish tapas restaurant where we ordered a pitcher of sangria and a whole variety of Spanish tapas--everything from octopus to potato fries.  And for once we didn't talk ALL about the kids, although admittedly, probably more about them than not.  But it was so nice to be able to string a sentence together without interruption or without darting our eyes away on constant watch for lint-eating, eye-gauging, toy-stealing or looking for a bottle to stuff in the mouth of one of any of our toddlers.  We could actually.  Just. Talk.

The food was delicious, the conversation blissfully uninterrupted, atmosphere buzzing and we all had a good time until we almost all crashed around 11:00 pm, could barely keep our eyelids open and had to call it a night.  I really wish we could all do this more often.  Thanks, my girls for a wonderful night out on the town.  I cannot imagine living here without knowing each of you.  You have all been so kind and welcoming to us--your cups of sugar, open conversation, shared advice and stories, and your companionship.  It has been short and sweet and entirely unforgettable!
