Driving Through Cottage Country: GECA Part 1

The first leg of our journey started out with what I hoped was not a bad omen.  Gabriel vomited in his carseat in the driveway the moment I was putting the car in drive to start our trip. I said, "Ok, are we ready?"  And heard a cry from the backseat......  Oh boy.  Fortunately we were pretty sure it was just because of all the excitement and running around (no other symptoms) so after a quick clean-up, we were on our way (remarkably on time!)

Total kms:  250 kms
Hours in car: 3.5 hours
Toronto to North Kawarthas

Highlights: A spur of the moment decision to take a detour to see my good friend Tina and her boys who were here visiting from BC.  We used to be neighbors and had regular playdates with her boys so we've been missing them a lot!  The littlest boy and Maggie hit it off much to Gabriel's dismay.  He wasn't so happy that his sister had found someone else's hand to hold.

Highlights: After another hour and half, we hit cottage country to visit with long time friends of ours, a cottage we've frequented often before we had children.  We took the boat out for a spin and Gabriel got to drive it too.  He was told, "Don't drive it into the Island!"  Good advice.

Gabriel and the oldest girl, Fiona hit it off wonderfully.  She started calling him "brother" when she thought no one was listening.  And said to him, "You know, when you leave the cottage, I am going to miss you."  Gabriel asked if she could come with us on our adventure. Oh gosh, I really hope that as they get older they continue to like each other and don't start thinking that they are too cool to play together.  You know what I mean?

We really missed Jordan, since he is such good friends with this family too.  I just isn't the same without him....

Thanks for the beds to sleep in, the friends to play with, the amazing meals and good company!  Next stop, Ottawa and then Montreal!
