It's not quite the ocean, but it'll do just fine.
This weekend, we headed northeast to Maryland where we drove along the bay from Chesapeake Beach to Annapolis. A great weekend to spend driving in the car and looking out the window.
We drove past many houses with their open acres of land along the wooded side roads of Maryland, soaking up time together as a family. Naturally, our first stop was the largest body of water we could find. Drive straight to the east and when you hit a body of water, stop. Welcome to Chesapeake Beach.
Since Gabriel was born, it amazed me how comfortable he was around water, recent hesitance with pools aside. As an infant, he would lay back with his head back in the water and float in my arms in the tub. And nothing makes him happier than splashing Abe's dog dish of water all over the floor. He gravitates to the toilet, the sink, the bathtub. If I let him, he would have run right into that bay and splashed around to his heart's content (although, he likely wouldn't have been happy since it wasn't very warm). It must be in his blood. He's a water baby.
He comes by it honestly. Somehow, we are always drawn to water. Maybe it's those East Coast roots. Life on the West Coast. And back and forth we go. But so long as we know where the closest body of water is, it seems that all is right with the world.
