Birthday Boy: A Small Affair

So our Gabriel turned three this week.  To celebrate we decided to have a very small affair at our house--just Gabriel's best friends and family and a simple celebration of balloons, snacks and cake while the kids tore around the house.

For Gabriel, the small simple things like balloons and birthday cards get him excited.  He kicked and threw the balloons around all morning before anyone got there.  It was a miracle he made it through the party after nearly wearing himself out by 10:00.

Cousin Elsie, who Gabriel completely adores and looks up to.

We were so glad to have Nanna & Bumpa with us to celebrate!  It always works out that one of the sets of grandparents are here over birthdays to celebrate and make the day extra special as well as give a hand in the party hosting.

Gabriel was completely delighted by the airplane cake we had made.  (For my Toronto people, I did NOT make this cake.  We ordered it from Sophia's Sugar Rush.  She is amazing and if you ever need a custom cake, she's your gal!)  In case you didn't know, Gabriel is OBSESSED with airplanes.  Ever since he could say the word, he has repeated no less than 10 times a day, "Goin' on a BIG airplane, Dad?  Putta seat belt on?"  They top the list above dogs, trucks, hot chocolate and skating.  He dreams about airplanes, and wakes up out of a dead sleep to ask us about airplanes.  They are his favorite toy of course, and he has been asking us to draw airplanes every day for a year now.  I have never before become so familiar with the anatomy of an airplane, trying to get the body just right.  In fact, I have a special little surprise coming his way in a week or two.

Cousin Frankie was having a fantastic time at the party!!  Whoop, whoop, little man!

And this was about 5 minutes before we ALL crashed for about three hours after the party. Much needed... (can you tell?)

Thank you dear friends for coming and celebrating with us!
